The Bulls won an exciting game against the New York Knicks on Thursday. Similar to last season, the tenacious defense that this team plays is still a work in progress. Fabulous in spurts, I expect for the Bulls to get tighter and tighter as the year goes on. Deng has clearly emerged as a very important defensive component for Chicago. Not a surprise to Bulls fans, but now the NBA community as a whole is recognizing Deng’s true value to this ballclub.
- This was the first time I’ve seen New York play so aggressively and I’ve watched them a few times this season. Amar’e did not settle for jump shots. He went into the paint and dominated the Bulls. Boozer was of course bashed for his weak defense, but the way STAT started the game, you just knew it was going to take a group effort to try to contain him.
- Stacy King loves to say that big time players make big time plays. Derrick, again made MSG his playground and put on a show for the “Gaahden” crowd. Finishing up with a sick stat line of 32 pts and 13 assists, he was great. NY stayed close mainly because of Bulls defensive lapses.
- Jimmy Butler played almost THE ENTIRE 4TH QUARTER. Yes, after we complained about Jimmy not getting enough minutes, touches, etc. Thibs plays the rook all but 9 seconds of the 4th. The defense he played on Melo was impressive. He also made a clutch 12 foot shot with 1:10 left giving the Bulls a needed cushion as NY hotly contested this game.
- Bulls defensive intensity cranked up in the 4Q and Thibs did a great job making offensive/defensive substitutions down the stretch as things got tight.
In Game Tweets:
Bucks tonight at 7P CST. We are in Milwaukee and Jennings has been beasting. I don’t think we have to worry about D.Rose being motivated for this one.
I’ll be in-game tweeting from @ChiTwnBullsBlog – Let’s go Bulls!
